17th Annual Key Largo Sailfish Challenge
Heralding the height of sailfish season, each year this boat tournament is
characterized by friendly but serious competition, professionalism and
camaraderie among anglers who put their 20-pound test line skills to task. Up to
four anglers per boat can register for the event. Cash prizes and trophies await the
first- through third-place teams. Auctions and raffles are to highlight the event,
whose proceeds benefit the Coral Shores High School band program.

Poor Girls Sailfish Tournament
A large regional charity competition that typically draws more than 200 anglers, the
challenge offers ten trophies, including first-, second- and third-place teams,
grand champion and runner-up grand champion anglers, and the largest dolphin,
kingfish and tuna. Entry fee includes fishing, kick-off party and awards banquet.

Key Largo / March 06 2013 – March 09 2013
Jimmy Johnson's National Billfish Championship: Quest for the Ring
Hosted by Jimmy Johnson, two-time Super Bowl winning coach and former head
coach at the University of Miami, this anhual quest benefits charitable foundations
including the University's Sports Hall of Fame, the Ray Lewis Family Foundation
and Ted Hendricks Foundation. Entry fee for the all-release team tournament is
$3,900, through Jan. 4, 2013. After Jan. 4, boat entry fee is $4,500. Fee includes
gift bags and tickets for all social functions for up to six team members. Top team
takes away $50,000 plus trophy and championship rings, among many more
cash prizes.

27th Annual Coconuts Dolphin Tournament
A "truckload" of cash and prizes topping $50,000 attract anglers to one of South
Florida's largest-drawing tournaments. The angler who lands a fish exceeding
63.9 pounds, the current event record, wins a two-year lease on a 2013 Honda
Ridgeline RT pickup truck valued at more than $10,000.

14th Annual Take Stock in Children Backcountry Challenge
For philanthropic anglers, this popular annual gathering proffers an important
fundraising opportunity while fishing trout, snook and redfish. Proceeds benefit
both local Rotary scholarships and Take Stock in Children, a statewide
scholarship program for children in seventh through 12th grades.

Baybone Celebrity Tournament
The second of three tournaments in the annual Redbone Trilogy, the Baybone
targets permit and bonefish to raise money for cystic fibrosis research. Among the
celebrities who have fished recent Baybone tournaments is legendary angler Stu
Apte, former Denver Bronco and Tampa Bay Buccaneer Mark Cooper and Major
League Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs.

The Islamorada SailFly Championship
In this fly fishing, all-release boat team tournament, captains, mates or anglers
can tease, but only the registered anglers can cast, hook and play the fish. The
13th annual invitational challenge is limited to 20 teams, with no more than two

Cheeca Lodge Presidential Sailfish Tournament
Now in its 23rd year, the tourney is a facet of the World Billfish Series and the
second leg of the three-tournament Florida Keys Gold Cup Sailfish
Championship. The event kicks off Jan. 17 with two days of 12-pound test, light
tackle fishing Jan. 18-19 wrestling the high flyers.

Al Flutie Over the Hill Rip-Off Sailfish Tournament
Entering its 24th year, this event is "almost too much fun for old guys to handle."
Locally called the Flutie, the tournament has donated $420,000 to local and

In this light-tackle challenge, awards await the grand champion team (boat), first

kingfish, most tagged sailfish and hard luck.

Bartender’s Sailfish Open
A boat tournament among actively employed bartenders, this locals' favorite
challenge offers trophy awards and bragging rights to winning bars. A hilariously
competitive event, the tournament kicks off on Feb. 10, at the Island Grill from 4-8
p.m. Fishing is on Monday, Feb. 11 with a grand awards party on the beach at the
Island Grill starting at 7 p.m. Entry fee is $125 per angler. Entry is limited to actively
employed bar and restaurant employees who are on the schedule at least one
day per week. Teams are limited to 5 anglers per boat. Over the years teams have
come from all over the country to represent their bars. Prizes are awarded to the
top three bars as well as the top four anglers. Other fun prizes are awarded to
hard luck and outstanding catches.

Backcountry Fly Championship
Tournament anglers are to compete to catch the most inches of snook and
redfish on fly in a competition where one inch equals one point. Awards are to be
given for grand champion, runner-up to grand champion, and largest snook,
redfish and tarpon. The field is limited to 30 boats.

Jim Bokor’s Islamorada All-Tackle Spring Bonefish Tournament
The prestigious All-Tackle championship is to go to the high-point angler who
catches at least one bonefish in four tackle divisions and one or more weight fish
in at least two divisions. Limited to 25 invited anglers with a maximum of two
anglers and guide per boat, this demanding challenge features general, fly and
spin-casting divisions.

Redbone @ Large Sunrise/Sunset Tarpon Tournament
One of approximately 30 events held each year whose proceeds benefit the Cystic

Nick Sheahan Dolphin Rodeo
A tournament honoring the memory of Nick Sheahan, a Florida Keys student,
funds from this event benefit a namesake community scholarship fund,
distributing more than $30,000 to date. Hosted at Tavernier Creek Marina, cash
prizes and $25,000 to the angler with the dolphin that beats the state record.

Outback Golden Fly Invitational Tarpon Tournament
Special flies, accurate casts and a bit of luck are the recipe for winning this
prestigious challenge, using only a tournament-furnished tippet not greater than
20-pound test. Eligible tarpon must measure at least 48 inches in length to earn
release points, and weigh at least 70 pounds for weight points.

The newly remodeled Florida Keys Elks Lodge located in Tavernier is to present

Casting for Cats Women’s Backcountry Tournament
Celebrating more than a decade as a charity "FUNdraiser" helping control feral cat
populations of the Upper Keys, this all-release event targets bonefish, permit,
tarpon, snook, redfish, as well as ladyfish, shark, jacks and trout. Highlights
include the wildly successful silent auction and "Litter Box Dig" for prizes, and the
Cat-Fish trophy, a handmade sculpture of (what else?) a cat and a fish, given to
the lady with the largest catfish.

Don Gurgiolo Sailfish Classic
This all-release tournament, part of the Redbone at Large series, honors one of
Islamorada's great captains, Don Gurgiolo, a pioneer of contemporary offshore
light tackle and live ballyhoo fishing techniques who fished for 50 years while
operating the Gonfishin' charter boats. The well-liked skipper's legacy continues.
